Nibbler

UPDATE: View Nibbler in his new home »

It was 8:00am on Friday and as the first person arrived for work at the Suncoast Animal League, it was apparent that another animal had been dropped off at the doorstep sometime during the night. That has been a common occurrence lately and it appeared by the size of the crate that it was once again another kitty. This, however , was no cat. Instead, it was a 35 lb dog stuffed into a cat size crate. How long had he been there?

On the cage was a note that read "Hi my name is Nibbler. I am 4 years old and I am a pretty good dog. I don't know what is wrong with my skin but it itches all the time and my previous owners couldn't afford to take me to the vet. They have been trying to find me a new home for about a month, but no one wants me because my fur is all gone". So entered Nibbler through our door and into our lives. Nibbler is a 35 lb, 4 year old Border Collie Mix with most of his hair missing. He suffers from a severe skin infection and a bilateral ear infection. He is not neutered, was positive for hookworms and was covered with fleas.

Nibbler will need medications twice a day for the next 4-6 weeks for his skin infection. He will also need a medicated bath twice a week for the next month or so. Also, he will need ear medication daily until his infection clears up. We have already de-wormed and de-fleaed him and started him on heartworm preventative. He will need to be neutered and vaccinated but that will have to wait until he's healthy enough to handle it.

We have found Nibbler to be a kind and tolerant dog. He seems to understand that for once........someone is trying to help him. And it makes him feel better. He had no idea that there were so many people out there, so many kind people!

Nibbler needs your help.
